NATURE-IMMERSED LOCATIONS
Congratulations on your engagement! I’m here to help you plan for a great photo session. I’ve gathered a list of popular outdoor Niagara Region locations, as well as a few hidden gems. These locations are perfect for adventurous, nature-lovers, who are searching for a tranquil and quiet area for their photo session. With a wide range of features, from lush forests, historic buildings, rustic barns, to scenic waterfronts and beaches, you’re in the right spot to find the perfect match. Enjoy!
BALL’S FALLS
Nestled within the scenic Niagara Escarpment, this conservation area offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, and historical significance. The heart of this location are the two waterfalls. They make for the perfect backdrop any time of year, but are the most impressive in spring when the water flow is at it’s peak. Balls Falls is immersed in nature with hiking trails through lush forests, open fields, and the Twenty Mile Creek connecting the two waterfalls. In addition to it’s natural beauty, there are several well-preserved historical buildings, which create a beautiful rustic feature for all your photo needs.
CHARLES DALEY PARK
Charles Daley Park is a beautiful waterfront park located in Jordan, Ontario. Situated on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, this park offers a serene and picturesque setting, making it the perfect spot for your engagement photos. The park showcases it’s well-maintained green spaces, lush trees, and stunning lake views. There are a variety of trees, including willows, maples, and oaks, creating a vibrant and tranquil environment, perfect for summer, and fall engagements. During your photo session, the highlights of this location are it’s willow trees, and beach waterfront. There is access to a small pond, making it a great location for adventurers to bring their canoe or kayak.
NIAGARA SHORES PARK
Formerly known as Firelane 1 Park, Niagara Shores Park is a hidden gem in Niagara-on-the-Lake, offering a tranquil and natural retreat for those seeking peace and quiet away from the bustle of the city. Tucked away along Firelane 1, this park provides a serene environment with a lush forest, tall grassy areas, and a beach waterfront. Since the park is tucked away, it often offers a sense of seclusion and privacy, making it an ideal spot for those who enjoy a more intimate and uncrowded outdoor experience. It’s a great spot to incorporate a campfire along the waterfront, and take a dip in the lake to cool down at the end of your engagement session.
WOODEND CONSERVATION AREA
Woodend Conservation Area is one of my favourite forests to explore in the region of Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario, Canada. Nestled within the picturesque Niagara Escarpment, the conservation area features several hiking trails that wind through the forest, wetlands, and open fields. The serene surroundings make it an ideal location for engagement photos during any time of year, however it is especially impressive during the fall months with golden foliage.
QUEENSTON HEIGHTS
Queenston Heights is a historic and picturesque park in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. Located at the top of the Niagara Escarpment, this park offers stunning panoramic views of the Niagara River and surrounding landscapes. The highlights of Queenston Heights are the iconic Brock’s Monument, which provides rich historical significance, and the stunning view of the Niagara River. The park also offers several well-maintained walking paths, and wooded forest trails perfect for nature-lovers.
NIAGARA ADVENTURE LOCATIONS
With access to the Bruce Trail, and diverse natural landscapes, the Niagara Region is home to many adventurous locations. These locations will require a moderate to difficult hike, and are recommended for adventurous couples who are seeking solitude and a hidden gem. They include places like Short Hills Provincial Park, Niagara Glen, Beamer Memorial Park, Rockway Conservation Area, and a few secret spots. As someone who loves hiking, this list is always growing!
FAMILY PROPERTIES, FARMS, & YOUR OWN FAVOURITE LOCATIONS
Home is where the heart is – cheesy but this saying has some truth! I’m a big advocate for selecting locations with an extra layer of meaning, and what better way to do this than incorporating family properties, or your favourite locations.
Family property sessions can be both inside and outside. They can take place on your beautiful farm, or backyard. Photos can also embrace the warmth inside of your home; with the comfort of your own bed, in the living room watching your favourite shows or dancing to your go-to music, and in the kitchen making a special meal together.
Your favourite locations might include your proposal location, a favourite date spot like a café, bar or pub, a picnic location, somewhere you frequently visit to unwind like a wooded park with your dog, or if you’re like me, a local greenhouse surrounded in lush plants.
OUTSIDE OF NIAGARA
Throughout my photography career, I’ve had the pleasure of documenting couples at incredible locations. Whether it’s driving up to your favourite cottage for a cozy and rustic setting, a fire under the stars, taking a dip in a northern lake with your pups, or a road trip to your go-to camping spot!
Some of the places I’ve photographed couples are a family property in Manitoulin Island, a Kawartha Lakes cottage, a Haliburton Cabinscape cabin, Guelph’s Rockwood Conservation Area, Forks of the Credit Provincial Park, Elora Gorge Conservation Area, and soon, Algonquin Provincial Park, and Killarney Provincial Park. The options in Ontario are truly endless!
